South Africa v Sri Lanka, 1st Test Betting Preview & Prediction

Test cricket is back in South Africa after nearly a year’s absence and the hosts go into the opener at Centurion on Boxing Day as firm favourites.

2020 has been a tough year for South African cricket culminating in the withdrawal of England from the ODI series just a few weeks ago.  Now we move on to the longer form of the game where the Proteas haven’t been in action since England visited here and won a 4 match series 3-1 back in January of 2020.

Sri Lanka have also been lightly raced and beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in a two match series at the start of the year and neither team has had much success in the 5 day game in recent years.

Centurion Park has become something of a fortress for South Africa and we have to go back 6 years to find the last time they were beaten.

South Africa 4/11

Draw 11/2

Sri Lanka 5/1

I certainly won’t be taking the short price about South Africa to win this opening test and may look for some in-running options as far as the match result goes.  With little form to go on it is probably wise not to get too involved in this opening match, but at the same time there is no way I am watching the Boxing Day Test without a bet.

SUGGESTED BET:  Top Home Batsman, Markram at 3/1

Markram has been in and out of the Proteas side and after piling on runs in the Domestic Competition would be looking to cement his spot in the team.  He has made plenty of runs at Centurion over the years and I am backing him to come good and score the most runs for the Proteas in the first innings.

SUGGESTED BET:  Highest Individual Score, under 120.5 runs at 17/20

There has been some rain about in the Centurion area and I am expecting the wicket to be quite lively.  Add to that the fact that these batsmen have not played 5 day cricket in some time and I like the chances that none of them will reach the 120 run mark.

England v Australia, 1st ODI Betting Preview & Prediction

England and Australia meet on Friday in the first of three ODI’s, all taking place in Manchester.  We take a look at the game from a betting angle.

These sides have just come out of a three match T20 series with England winning 2-1 although Australia will carry some momentum into this match having won the final game by 5 wickets and with 3 balls to spare.

England are the reigning World 50 Over Champions and they have been priced as slight favourites here against their great rivals.  Both sides should be pretty close to full strength and we should be in for a cracking series.

England 8/10

Australia 21/20

BET:  Batsman Total match 4’s, Aaron Finch over 3.5 at 17/20

Finch looked in good nick in the T20’s and if he stays at the crease for any length of time he should go shooting past the 4 boundaries we require him to get.

England v Australia, 3rd T20 Betting Preview & Prediction

The 3rd and final T20 between England and Australia takes place in Southampton on Tuesday and with England having wrapped the series up already it is a dead rubber.

All 3 T20’s are being played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton and after a thrilling opening International, England won with a little bit more room to spare getting up by 6 wickets and with 7 balls left in their innings.

Australia batted first and scored 157 for 7 having got off to a bad start with Warner going for a duck.  Finch got 40 and there were also useful contributions from Stoinis, Maxwell and Agar.  For England the wickets were spread out, but the pick of the bowlers was Wood with 4 overs and 1 wicket for 25 runs.

England then looked to be cruising to victory thanks to 77 from Buttler and 42 from Malan and in the end they made fairly hard work of it and Agar was the pick of the Australian bowlers with 2 for 27 in his 4 overs.

England are set to make a few changes for this International and that might open the door for an Australian victory.

Match Betting

England 10/11

Australia 10/11

SUGGESTED BET:  Australia win at 10/11

Australia came into this series after a long lay-off and they have now had some match practice and having pushed England close twice I think they are now ready for the victory.

England v Ireland 1st ODI, Betting Preview & Prediction

With the Test Series against the West Indies barely completed, England go into a 3 match ODI series against Ireland.  All 3 ODI’s will take place in Southampton.

This match also signals the start of the inaugural ICC Cricket World Cup Super League which will ultimately determine the qualifiers for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

The England side will be missing a number of familiar names with those involved in the 3rd Test against the West Indies such as Stokes and Root sitting out, England still have the bulk of their World Cup winning squad available though.  This will be England’s first home ODI Series since winning the World Cup last year, but they did travel to  South Africa where they drew a 3 game series 1-1 after rain washed out the second match.

Ireland are battling to prove themselves on the International stage and aside from the odd massive upset are generally whipping boys against the big dogs.  Punters will recognise Kevin O’Brien as a familiar name dating back as far as the World Cup 2011 and he looked good in the warm-up match.  Ireland went to the West Indies at the start of the year and lost the series 3-0.

These sides have played against each other 10 times with England winning 8, Ireland 1 and 1 no result.

England are understandably short priced favourites and we will look elsewhere for our selections in this series.

Bet:  Batsman to score a 50, Johnny Bairstow, YES, at 11/10

There is a big difference between ODI and Test cricket, but Bairstow will be eager to prove his worth to the English selectors with a strong performance here.  I am backing Bairstow to come out firing and to score a 50.

Bet:  Top away batsman, Harry Tector at 9/2

Tector looks likely to make his 50 over debut and he has looked sharp in the warm-ups. Likely to bat in the middle order he may be able to avoid some of the fiery bowling bowling up front and give us a run for our money.

South Africans can keep an eye on Curtis Campher who toured England with The South African Under-19’s, but has opted to play for Ireland.

If you are not sure of what to bet on before the game starts keep an eye out for in play betting.

England v West Indies 3rd Test, Betting Preview & Prediction

With the series locked at one apiece the 3rd and deciding Test Match between England and the West Indies takes place at Old Trafford in Manchester from Friday.

England started this series as massive favourites, but the West Indies came out the strongest in the opener securing a 4 wicket win in Southampton.  It was an exciting match and the West Indies always just seemed to stay ahead of England, but it was a different story in Manchester last week when England bounced back to win by 113 runs.  It was a match where they were always in control, however a fair amount of play was lost due to bad weather and they had to force a result on Day 5, batting quickly and then bowling brilliantly to level the series.

England 8/11

Draw 18/10

West Indies 8/1

Suggested Bet:  England win at 8/11

The betting reflects the fact that rain is expected to play a role in this match, that being said, I like the way England went about their business when they had the opportunity in the 2nd Test and I think the West Indies could be psychologically scarred from that defeat.  England to win the match is my main play.

Suggested Bet: A 100 to be scored in the match, NO, at 7/2

I am expecting both teams to play aggressive cricket and if rain, as expected, does intervene then it will certainly shorten the odds of no century being scored.

Suggested Bet:  Total Match Sixes, over 4.5 at 17/20

This could be a similar match to last weeks with the pace having to be forced by the team in control and we had 10 sixes in that game so over 4.5 really does look like a good bet.
